by Michael Friedman
“I enjoy making things right; it’s rewarding when a client is happy.”
Michael Friedman takes a hands-on approach to working with his clients – especially if they have a problem. Rather than explaining a solution over the phone, Michael prefers to show them in person.
A partner in the New York office, Michael’s clients consist primarily of multi-employer benefit plans, single employer plans, labor unions consisting of teachers’ unions and other municipal unions, along with their related political action funds, and building corporations. He also works closely with charities, private foundations, and other non-profit organizations.
With more than 18 years of experience, Michael oversees audit and assurance services and the preparation of informational returns for his clients. He also consults on internal control matters offering guidance to his clients on regulatory compliance and best practices.
Listening, offering suggestions, and taking the time to illustrate how to do something correctly is how Michael expresses care for his clients. He responds promptly to their inquiries and reaches out to other partners for support and guidance when necessary.
An Early Start in Maryland
Prior to joining Buchbinder in 1996, Michael worked as an accounting clerk at a precious metal refiner in Long Island while he studied for the CPA exam. When he came onboard at Buchbinder, he spent his first few years in the Maryland office before he relocated back to New York. Michael is one of the few partners who has worked in both locations.
When he’s not working, Michael spends time with his wife and two young daughters. He enjoys occasionally playing pick-up basketball and football games as well.
Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Binghamton University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He is licensed to practice in New York State.
