Joe Musher CPA

“When clients call, I make whatever adjustments I need to get to their office.”

Joe Musher doesn’t like surprises – at least in regards to his clients. When it comes time for an audit and filing requirements, every detail should be anticipated ahead of time so any loose ends or changing variables can be addressed.

A partner in the Maryland office, Joe has more than 40 years of audit, tax and accounting experience. He specializes in employee benefit plans, labor unions, privately held and family-owned businesses and tax planning. He regularly meets with boards of trustees, union officers and business owners to review their financial statements and ensure compliance.

Audit Expert and Prolific Author

Prior to joining Buchbinder in 1990, Joe worked as an auditor and tax planning specialist with a major international accounting firm and a local Washington, D.C. area firm. A former college instructor, Joe frequently speaks on accounting and taxation matters and has made numerous presentations at conferences sponsored by labor unions, the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

He has authored many articles for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, including “Fraud Detection and Prevention,” “Statement of Position 92-6-Accounting and Reporting by Health and Welfare Benefit Plans,” and “DOL Investigations: The Mystery Unraveled.” He recently authored “New Worries for 401(k) Plans” for the Legal Times, and co-authored “Quality Audits are Your Fiduciary Responsibility” which appeared in Defined Contribution Insights.

Joe had served as president of the Association of Practicing CPAs in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, and as chairman of the National Accountants Committee for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. Joe has also served on the National Planning Committee for the annual conference of the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America.

In his spare time, Joe serves on the Board of Directors as treasurer at Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, MD. An avid traveler, he recently went on a two-week safari to South Africa with his wife. Joe also enjoys golf and talking international business with people he meets all over the world.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Maryland with high honors. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. Joe is licensed to practice in Maryland.
