John Demetrius earned his CPA designation the same year he got married – 1961. Since then John has been in auditing, accounting and income tax services at public accounting firms.
A partner in the Wayne office, John provides audit services for casinos, technology companies, non-profits, and pharmaceutical companies. He has performed audits internationally in locations such as Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe under GAAP. In addition, he is a qualified team captain for conducting peer reviews and consulting services for other accounting firms.

At Buchbinder, John is responsible for audit engagements and client relations of various commercial, manufacturing, and service enterprises. He specializes in audits of casinos, metal fabrication, import/export, non-profit organizations, and Employee Benefit Plans.
Prior to joining Buchbinder in 2016, John was the managing owner of a mid-sized regional accounting firm in New Jersey for almost 30 years. Prior to that he was a partner in a mid size New York based accounting firm, where he supervised audits of public companies. He supervised various types of audit engagements at a Big Four accounting firm for almost a decade. He started his career at New York University Medical Center as an assistant auditor.
In his spare time, John is a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Wayne Township. He also serves as an emergency coordinator of communications for Passaic County. In addition, John is a past president of the Ramapo Mountain Amateur Radio Club, a Minister of Hospitality for Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church, and president of that church’s Holy Name Society.
John is also a recipient of many awards. In 1987, he was a recipient of the New Jersey State Society’s Distinguished Public Service Award, and then in 2004, he was honored again with the association’s Service Award. He was Man of the Year for the American Cancer Society in 1999 and was also a Former Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
John earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a Minor in Law from New York University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants where he served on the Technical Standards Ethics Sub-Committee, the AICPA Peer Review Board, and the Peer Review Committee for the Private Company Section. In addition, he’s a member of the Association of Government Accountants, a member of the Inter-Governmental Audit Forum, and served on the Board of Directors for Accountants of Public Interest in New Jersey.
John is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a Certified Government Financial Manager and a Certified Public Accountant in the states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
