With more than 25 years of experience working in Information Technology (IT) audit, Michael Pinna brings a passion for learning what makes something tick. Whether it was tinkering with an old PC back in the 80’s or evaluating a company’s IT environment today, he enjoys bringing new ideas to his clients that help them think differently about what decisions they are making.

As an IT audit manager, Michael serves as the practice leader of the firm’s IT Audit & Assurance Group, where he provides IT audit and assurance services with a focus on Service Organization Controls (SOC) reporting. These services are all related to providing assurance on the security, reliability, confidentiality, availability, and integrity of information technology systems. He also specializes in IT risk assessment and vulnerability scan, compliance management, security and privacy risks, Sarbanes-Oxley IT controls, disaster recovery, and business continuity training. In addition, Michael also handles documentation and testing of IT controls in support of the firm’s audit clients.

On Time and On Budget

Michael works with clients in a variety of industries including, non-profits, labor unions, banking, financial services, insurance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, retail, and technology. Whether helping companies better secure their data, improve their control processes around technology, or conducting IT due diligence, Michael provides solid recommendations and is responsive to his clients’ needs before and as they emerge.

Aside from following industry guidelines and best practices, Michael applies his own level of professional review to each engagement. With his experience and insight, he makes sure the engagement is done correctly while achieving the goals of the client.

Prior to joining Buchbinder in 2016, Michael was a director of IT assurance services at a global accounting, tax, and advisory firm. Previously, he worked at a major credit card processing company as a director of technology audit. He started his career at a Big Four accounting firm.

Aside from playing golf and swimming, Michael coaches his son’s hockey team at Woodbridge Community Center in New Jersey, in his spare time.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics at Cornell University and his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Binghamton University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Public Accountants, where he was a former chairman and currently serves on the Technology Assurance Committee, and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Additionally, Michael is a member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the states of New York and New Jersey.
